Coaches:
Chris Adams
Coach Chris Adams has been involved in cross country running for the past 34 years having logged 50,000 plus miles himself. During the past twenty years he has coached two NE championship teams and four individual NE champions. If Coach Adams is not yelling out splits and words of encouragement, then he can be found running alongside his athletes. Chris was a New England champion himself at Canterbury School and ran for twelve season at Bates College. He is also the director of the Marion Village 5K and the founder and director of the Marion Mile Just For Kids. He teaches Spanish and lives with his family in Glaeser House. If you are interested in running at Tabor, you can contact Coach Adams at cadams@taboracademy.org.
Gary Sousa
Gary Sousa has coached Cross Country at Tabor Academy since he arrived in 2005. Gary has been running competitively and recreationally since junior high school and regularly completes the Boston Marathon as a charity runner for Dana Farber. In addition to blazing the local trails, Gary teaches history, participates in Tabor’s waterfront program, and is a dorm parent in Daggett House.

About the Team

The '07 Tabor Boys' Cross Country team finished their season with an 8-4 dual meet record and a 29-13 overall record for the season, a tremendous success for such a young team. There were 11 seniors on a team of 27 runners, but 6 of the top 7 were underclassmen and there were three sophomores in the top 7, so last fall was a continuation of TA's rebuilding phase. The fall of 2008 looks to be an extremely promising season. Last year's team had a solid winning season without a frontrunner, but rather a front-running trio of underclassmen, which often finished behind other teams' top man but outran opponents' top three to lead Tabor to victory. It was a year of pack running with junior Tom Bescherer and sophomores Colton Thomas and Gary Maestas leading the way for the team. Trevor Babbitt, James Downer and Ryo Inamoto stayed close in a fast-closing second pack for the Seawolves.  The junior varsity also had an exceptional season with only a pair of losses.

The '07 season concluded with some very fast times at the New England Championship where the top three finished within ten seconds between 17:21 to 17:31. Five more runners broke 18:39 giving the team 8 runners finishing at a sub 6:00 pace. The season started with eight returning runners attending a mini training camp at the Douglas' Lakeville cabin in early August.

This year's team may be TA's best ever! 2008 Tri-captains Tom Bescherer, Trevor Babbitt and Henry Blanchette are committed to loggng many summer miles as are most all of the returning team members. A summer training camp in Maine, 300, 400 and 500 mile running club t-shirts and a lot of competition for the top 7 varsity spots will provide plenty of motivation for this year's squad. You can expect some new talent to join the varsity and expect most of the returning runners to open the season with near PR times at the Tabor Invitational on Sept. 13th.
