Day students are welcome at all campus events and are totally integrated into our community. A special sub-committee of the Parents' Committee is the Day Parents' Steering Committee. This group focuses on the special needs of the day community at Tabor. The Steering Committee meets monthly on the third Thursday of each month in the Academic Center Ward Room. Parents enjoy a chance to meet other day families, hear from the faculty on different topics, and ask questions geared to their day students. The committee is chaired by David Pierce, and all (both boarding and day families) are welcome to attend at any time. David Pierce and Sally Fallon can assist you with issues you may have regarding your day student.
As day parents, you need to be understanding, willing, and flexible regarding your child's need to stay late at school some evenings to have dinner, go to club meetings, attend rehearsals, or participate in some sports that may have evening practices or late games.
Additional information:
Each new day student is assigned to a dormitory as an affiliate. Returning day students choose their dormitory association. When day students are on campus, they are expected to follow and conform to the same rules and regulations as boarders. Unless they have permission to spend the night in a dormitory, day students must depart the campus at curfew.
- Locker spaces in the Academic Center are assigned in the beginning of the school year to day students. The locks issued by the school are the ones that should be used.
- Day students may only use their cell phones inside the lobbies or outdoors directly adjacent to The Fish Center, Hoyt, or Academic Center.
- Be sure your child knows the rules regarding the use of his/her car. It’s forbidden for day students to drive boarders in their cars without first obtaining specific permissions through the dean’s office.
- Be aware of all school rules, so that you understand which rules your child’s classmates are operating under, i.e. boarders’ sign-out procedures (see the school handbook Life at Tabor).
- If your child is going to be absent or late, call Tabor’s main number: 508-748-2000.
- Tabor will normally have regular classes during inclement weather, but it is the prerogative of day parents (after notifying the school) to keep their child home if the driving is unsafe, or to request that the student leave school early to return home. In either case, students will not be penalized for classes missed and will be given an opportunity to make up the work.
- If your child is on campus and bad weather prevents you from picking him/her up, we can make arrangements to have your child stay on campus if you call his/her assigned dorm parents to work out the permission and the details.
