Wiley Wakeman Coach Wiley Wakeman ‘67 rowed for Tabor Academy in the boys V1 from 1966 to 1968. In ‘67 Wiley was a member of the Tabor crew that lost to Eaton College in the finals at Royal Henley Regatta. At Marietta College, Wiley rowed with an undefeated crew in ’69 and medalled at Dad Vails. The Boys’ Crew Program fielded 4 eights this spring and the program saw a host of new faces at the boathouse. With the boys looking to help each boat go the fastest, the program had a solid season. 1st boat had wins over Hingham and E. Lyme, and close races with NMH and St. Paul's. The 2nd Boat beat NMH, Hingham, and a host of other schools, but the surprise of the season was third boat that prevailed over several crews including St. Paul’s, NMH, Hanover, and Shrewsbury, to name a few. The coaches are excited for next season and are already looking forward to the promise of a fast 2009 spring!

Mr. DaSilva says...
Rick DaSilva '89
Academic Credentials : University of Tulsa ‘89-’93
BA from UMass Dartmouth ‘03
Responsibilities at Tabor:History Faculty, Residential Dean, Coach, Dorm Parent
Favorite part of your job? Interaction with the students in the dorms, on the fields and courts, and in classrooms. This is truly and amazing community.
What is life in the dormitory like? Busy. 28 Senior girls can be quite the challenge, especially around college acceptance time. But they all get along well with my wife and daughter and that makes for some truly wonderful experiences.
How has Tabor changed since you graduated? At first glance, you’d think that it’s changed a lot but really, it hasn’t all that much. Some of the names and faces have changed but the culture and the “feel” of Tabor is the same as it was when I was here. It’s still the “school by the sea”, and then some!
What student qualities make for the strongest Tabor experience?
The most successful Tabor students, in general, are the ones that are open and flexible to all that Tabor has to offer. I know that I wasn’t very open to trying new things when I was a student and that has truly changed the way I teach, advise and coach now as a faculty member.
Advice to a new student: Whether it’s the Marine Science program, the international excursions
or even the SSV Tabor Boy, all students, new or returning, should take
advantage of the uniqueness of Tabor.
