Coaches:
Liz Magee
Coach Liz Magee has been the girls’ varsity coach since 1999, with a season off while on maternity leave. She has also held the role of technique coach, critiquing boats throughout the boys’ and girls’ programs. She has taken the girls’ Varsity to Henley Women’s Regatta in ‘01 and ‘07. Prior to coaching at Tabor she was an assistant coach at The Gunnery School and then the Freshman/Novice coach at Tufts University for two years. Liz has attended the Craftsbury Sculling Center; and she played D3 hockey at UVM. Liz teaches history, lives with junior girls in Pokoik House, and with husband Mike and children Grace and Matthew.
Mike Bentz
Coach Michael Bentz has coached rowing at Tabor since 1999. He has worked with the gamut of crews from novice to varsity boys, first varsity girls, and most recently coached the second varsity girls. At Ithaca College, Mike rowed competitively in the fall and spring and swam competitively in the winter. He hauled with an undefeated Ithaca crew in ’92, and has been in boats that won the New York State championships and medalled in the Head of the Charles and the Dad Vails. Mike teaches statistics and physics, lives with senior boys in Baxter House, and lives with wife English teacher Airami and son Kole.

About the Team

The girl’s crew team yielded five eights of girls this spring – over forty girls participated this season! The spring began with some exciting racing and wins against Greenwich, Stonington, Simsbury, and Boston Latin, and the wins by the first and second boats over a six boat field at the Simsbury Cup was definitely a highlight. St. Paul’s, Andover, and Exeter all proved to be tough as usual, but as a team the girls rose to the challenge week after week and continued to make progress and gain speed. The novice girls improved dramatically and looked as though they had been rowing for longer than just 8 weeks by the end of the season. They will provide strength in the years to come.

At the New England championships, both varsity boats raced well in their morning heats and their final standings worked out as their seeds predicted - the 2nd boat was 6th, the first boat was 8th.  The third boat was disappointed in their performance at the New England championships but some strong rowers emerged in that group who will be instrumental in the future. The varsity boats are now off to Craftsbury, Vermont, and Henley, England for some post-season racing!
