You file an initial application, the committee reviews it and makes suggestions, and then you complete a final application, taking the committee’s suggestions into consideration.
Yes, provided you have submitted a thorough and complete initial application.
Yes. An idea that isn’t challenging, isn’t original, and doesn’t have a significant learning component is a bad idea.
Absolutely. You scale the project to your course load, and you get signatures of your AP teachers so that you may drop those classes after the AP exams.
Yes, because you need to make arrangements to have someone outside of Tabor act as your advisor.
You have to submit something – a note or letter, a copy of an email – with your application that says as much.
Yes, but you have to demonstrate on your application why the project necessitates two people and how your jobs will differ. The committee advises against these projects because the best projects – thus far – have always been done by individuals.
No, every person must complete an individual application.
Yes.
Yes, you may walk across the stage, but you will have a blank diploma. You will have to return after graduation to complete your project if you want your diploma.
Yes, a few years ago.
No.
Then your project will be terminated, and you’ll go back to classes.
“Overall merit” refers to the quality of the initial idea and the degree to which you were inspired throughout the six weeks of the project period.
Final grades are based on four things: 1) your journal 2) your presentation 3) your abstract and 4) the overall merit of your project. A HIGH PASS on all four or on three of the four will earn you a final grade of HIGH PASS. A two-two split, two HIGH PASSes and two PASSes, will earn you a PASS.
Hard. Usually, twenty- to twenty- five percent of projects earn high pass.
Usually a solid, inspired (and inspiring) journal and abstract to go with a great idea and a great presentation. In other words, a lot of good learning and communicating of that learning over six weeks.
No. A pass is an excellent grade. It means you accomplished everything you set out to do.
Miss weekly meetings with your reader, write short or late journal entries, write a sloppy and uninspired abstract, or a combination of the above.
That depends. Not necessarily. You make that choice.
Yes.
Two books. Not technical manuals or “direction” books or “textbooks” but any book that will help you to focus your learning and reflect on that learning.
Your reader is a member of the Senior Project Committee who will meet with you weekly, will read your journal and abstract, and will check the progress of your project.
No.
No, although you may be encouraged to if that seems to fit your project – a play, for instance, or a recital, an art or photography opening or exhibit, and so on.
Essentially, the committee awards the Heitman to the best senior project. This may be the project that was most inspirational or the one that came the farthest or the one which overcame the greatest odds. The Heitman Award is given at commencement.
Any other questions? Just ask a member of the committee!

Hoon Ki
Name: Hoon Ki "Kevin" Kim
Hometown: Suwon, South Korea
Former school: Hillside School
Why I came to Tabor: I got into three other schools. Out of all those 4 schools, there was one school that was considered a better school than Tabor in Korea, but Tabor had a better future. I made a good choice, and now Tabor is known better than that school.
Leadership positions: Proctor, Head Tour Guide
After school activities: Varsity Lacrosse, Music Alternative
Clubs: Sending the Happiness Club, Reading Club
Courses last year: English 3, BC Calculus, Physics Honors, AP Chemistry, Spanish 3 Honors, Madrigals
Courses this year: English 4, Multi Variable/Differential Equations, AP Statistics, APc Physics, US History, Spanish 4/5, Madrigals
Favorite thing about Tabor: Silvershell Beach. Whenever things get stressful, I go on a beach run and spend some time there and relax.
Favorite class and why: BC Calculus. I think a lot to solve the problems and try really hard to figure out the questions. I develop my mind the most in BC Calculus.
Favorite dining hall food: Fried Beef
Favorite Beebe food: Beebe Riser
Favorite movies: Matrix Series
Favorite singer/group: Led Zeppelin
